70x2020 conference, Millsaps, Illini expert presentations headline event list
Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming weeks at the Medical Center.
Monday, Dec. 3
ACS chief cancer control officer to keynote 70x2020 conference
Dr. Richard C. Wender, chief cancer control officer for the American Cancer Society and chair of the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable, will deliver the keynote address at the 70x2020 Colorectal Cancer Screening Initiative Annual Conference, “Countdown to 2020!” from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, in the student union.
The statewide 70x2020 Partnership consists of more than 660 people and organizations committed to ensuring at least 70 percent of Mississippi’s eligible population will be screened for colorectal cancer by 2020.

Millsaps religious studies chair to talk Hanukkah's evolution
Dr. James Bowley. professor and chair of the Religious Studies Department at Millsaps College, will present "Happy Hanukkah: The Big Evolution of a Little Holiday," at noon on Monday, Dec. 3, in room R153 (lower amphitheatre).
Lunch will be available to the first 50 in attendance. The presentation is sponsored by the UMMC Faith Forum, the ASB Diversity and Inclusion Committee, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities.

Chicago researcher to focus on lymphatic clearance in Alzheimer's
Dr. Liudmila Romanova, research assistant professor in the Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation at the University of Illinois at Chicago, will give the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology seminar, "Role of Lymphatic Clearance in Alzheimer's Disease," at noon on Monday, Dec. 3, in room 6A.

Kelly McBride, former medical transcriptionist and parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Church in Flowood, will present the Catholic Students Association lunch and learn lecture, "The Transcriptionist Heart: From the Conversion of Words to Conversion by the Word," at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 4, in room R153 (lower amphitheatre).
Adrian Eddy, graduate assistant in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, will give the department's presentation, "Therapeutic Approaches for Experimental Preeclampsia," from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

Dr. Gulshan Sunavala-Dossabhoy, associate professor of research in the Department of Biochemistry at Louisiana State University Health in Shreveport, will discuss “A Promising New Therapeutic for Management of Radiation Toxicity” from 11:10 a.m.-12:10 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, in classroom R153 (lower amphitheatre).
Dr. Scott Rodgers, professor and chair of psychiatry and human behavior, and Dr. Julie Schumacher-Coffey, professor and vice chair of education in the Department of Psychiatry, will give the Psychiatry Grand Rounds presentation, "A Discussion of 'Shrinks: The Untold Story of Psychiatry' by Jeff Lieberman, M.D.," at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, in room CW 308 of the Classroom Wing.

Dr. Sachin Kedar, associate professor of neurology and ophthalmology and program director of the neurology residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, will present the eighth annual James J. Corbett M.D. Lecture in Neuro-Ophthalmology, "The Brain and the Eye: A Hunt for Biomarkers," at noon on Friday, Dec. 7, in lecture room 1B in the School of Health Related Professions.
